Eligibility: twin pairs where at least one twin has epilepsy currently or had previously.
TRA has proudly supported the Epilepsy Research Centre at the University of Melbourne for more than 30 years – helping to recruit identical and fraternal twins to their research projects to investigate the genetic and environmental causes of epilepsy. The centre’s recent studies have focused on the differing genetic contribution to specific epilepsy types (such as temporal lobe epilepsy and its various subtypes), the role of environmental and non-genetic factors linked to epilepsy, and the role of common genetic variants in epilepsy in identical twins. TRA helped recruit 10 pairs of twins to these studies most recently in 2024.
